The National Enforcement Authority (Kronofogdemyndigheten) is responsible for establishing and collecting debts on behalf of the state, municipalities, private individuals, companies, and various organizations. The Authority's main tasks include debt collection, enforcement, payment orders, debt adjustment, and bankruptcy supervision. The Authority also works to prevent and combat economic crime.
The Authority shall promote a good willingness to pay in society and counter over-indebtedness. The Authority shall provide information and good service so that the public and businesses have good conditions for making long-term and sustainable decisions. The Authority shall further act impartially to ensure that all parties' interests are met in a legal and correct manner.
The Authority is led by the National Enforcement Officer (Rikskronofogden) with the support of a Deputy National Enforcement Officer. The Authority has a supervisory board.
The Authority's operations are conducted within four core processes:
- summary process,
- enforcement,
- debt adjustment,
- bankruptcy supervision.
The core processes are distributed across three operational departments:
- Claims and Payments Department,
- Enforcement Department,
- Over-indebtedness Department.
In addition, there are six support departments for IT, personnel issues, communication, development, legal matters, and operational support. These departments are located at the headquarters in Sundbyberg and are responsible for steering, supporting, developing, and monitoring operations. The work is carried out from 32 offices across the country. There is a Data Protection Officer who provides advice and support on data protection issues, as well as an internal audit function.
The Authority employs approximately 2,200 people. The Authority is funded by a budget appropriation amounting to approximately 2,538 million SEK in 2026.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who is a documented good manager and leader with:
- experience in leading through other managers,
- experience from working at a management level in a large organization,
- good knowledge of and experience with the Swedish civil service and its decision-making processes,
- understanding of the political structure within which the Authority operates,
- good proficiency in Swedish and English,
- academic education or equivalent.
You must also have the ability to
- lead and develop the Authority's operations,
- drive change and efficiency work,
- have a strategic, professional, and trust-based approach towards clients and the media,
- develop good cooperation forms both within the Authority and with other authorities and actors,
- within given financial and legal frameworks, organize and conduct the Authority's operations in the most effective and rational way,
- lead and develop operations within the framework of a good administrative culture,
- work strategically with competence supply issues,
- represent the Authority and communicate the Authority's tasks in a clear and trust-inspiring manner both internally and externally, as well as nationally and internationally,
- represent employer interests and, together with other authority heads, develop the state employer policy.
It is meritorious if you have
- experience with debt collection and over-indebtedness issues,
- experience from development and change work with a large IT component,
- experience in preventing and combating economic crime,
- experience with legal, administrative-political, and public financial issues,
- experience leading an operation with wide geographical spread,
- experience with EU work or other international cooperation.
Other
Only a Swedish citizen can be appointed as National Enforcement Officer and head of the Authority. The position is security-classified. Security clearance with register check will therefore be conducted before a decision on employment as National Enforcement Officer is made.

The Swedish civil service consists of approximately 200 authorities that report directly to the Government. The Government employs the authority heads and decides on their terms of employment. The salary is individual and determined based on the requirements of the position and the manager's qualifications and experience. Most authority heads are employed for a fixed term – normally the first employment period is six years.
